Starting a blog may seem like a long and difficult process, but as I learned in my freshman college writing class, just start writing.
If there is something that you feel passionate about, why not share your voice with the world through a blog? Unfortunately I lacked the time and discipline to dedicate to consistent writing and growth when I first started out.
In 2018 I became a stay-at-home-mom and finally had the time to pour my energy into writing and growing my blog. I went from posting once every few months, to posting (sometimes) several times a week.
Here are some of the steps that I went through to start my blog.

Simple Steps to Start a Blog
My number one tip on how to start a blog is to make a list of things you are passionate about. It may be sewing, baking, planning, designing or something completely off the wall. Whatever that topic is, there is your niche.
Once you have identified your niche, ask yourself, ‘Is this something I am willing to spend time on without getting paid?’ A blog is like a baby – if you take the time to nurture and care for your blog, the investment will pay off down the line.
While making money can be a perk of blogging, it shouldn’t be your number one reason for blogging.
Where Will Your Blog Live?

You can start blogging using a platform that already exists, such as Blogger or Wix. The foundation that supports your blog is already laid and you just have to start writing.
Another option is to self-host your blog. It sounds complicated, but I promise you, it’s not. I chose to go this route because it is my own piece of real estate on the internet.
To get started with self-hosting, you will need to purchase a domain name – the URL address you type in to find a website e.g. www.thekristinalove.com.
I purchased my domain name through Bluehost. Bluehost works seamlessly with WordPress to get you up and running as fast as possible – even beginners! Simplicity is key when starting a blog, and Bluehost delivered on what it promised.

WordPress can guide you through the steps and help you decide if WordPress.com or WordPress.org is better for your blogging needs. I ended up choosing WordPress.com.
Start Writing Your Blog
You may think the hard part of starting a blog is over, and while you are mostly right, here comes the part that will determine the longevity of your blog. Once you start writing, just keep writing. There are hundreds of ways to plan out your blog posts, but start simple by drafting your About Me page, and your pillar posts that will help readers to figure out what your blog is all about. Pinterest is a great resource for blog post topics, ideas and motivation. I have created an entire Pinterest board dedicated to the best of blogging.
When I first started my blog, I aimed to have a month’s worth of content before my site went live. With the goal to publish a post once per week, that meant I was starting out with four blog posts. Find a rhythm that fits your lifestyle, and go from there!
